Local round-up: Collectables up for grabs at church sale

A RANGE of books and other collectable items will go on sale this weekend at a city church.

The Christian Aid event, at St Andrew's and St George's West Church, will hope to mirror last year's sale, which saw more than 100,000 books, antiques and artworks sold.

The sale takes place on Saturday, and then for the rest of the week from Monday, including a late opening on Thursday.

Sheet music, postcards, paintings, records, stamps and home baking will all be available.

Screening of restored film

A RESTORED version of the classic war movie Apocalypse Now is to be screened in Edinburgh.

Francis Ford Coppola's masterpiece has been painstakingly restored by his Zoetrope studios under his close supervision.

It will be shown at the Filmhouse on Lothian Road, from May 27.

Kilted Chef in city challenge

Craig Wilson, better known as The Kilted Chef, plans to cook a dish in each of the major cities in Scotland in one day this summer as part of a charity event. On Saturday, June 4 he'll be flying into Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee, Perth, Stirling, Glasgow and Edinburgh for the fundraiser.

Cafe celebrates 21st birthday

Broadcast of live interview of cricket stars

A LIVE interview with cricketing legends Gordon Greenidge and Jeff Thompson will be broadcast to the Cameo Cinema this evening.

The Q&A session marks the release of the film Fire in Babylon, which tells the story of of West Indian cricket against a background of white prejudice in the 1970s and 1980s. The film will be introduced by executive producer Sir David Frost. For details see www.fireinbabylon.com.
