Little Ramsay is Scotland's first baby of 2010

PARENTS across Scotland were celebrating today as the first babies of 2010 were born.

Ramsay Douglas Wilson arrived into the world just 30 seconds after the bells rang in the start of the New Year.

The baby boy, who was born in the Cresswell Maternity Wing of Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, weighed 8lb.

And parents Jennifer and Andrew Wilson, from Castle Douglas, were delighted with their new son.

In Glasgow, the first baby of the New Year was born at the Queen Mother's Maternity Hospital.

The first infant there arrived at just seven minutes after the start of 2010.

The maternity hospital is due to close on January 13 and a spokeswoman there said: "It is especially poignant for us to have what is thought to be the first baby of 2010 in Glasgow."

Meanwhile in Fife, Nicola Bremner was celebrating her second New Year baby after son James Diamond was born.

The youngster, who weighed 8lb 1oz, was arrived at 53 minutes past midnight at Forth Park Hospital in Kirkcaldy.

Ms Bremner has another son, who was born on January 1 2002.

Little Mya Boyd was thought to be the first new arrival in the Lothians area, after she was born at 4.07am at St John's Hospital in Livingston.

Parents Lyndsay and William Boyd were delighted with their new arrival, who weighed 8lb 12oz.

And the first baby at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, which houses Scotland's biggest maternity unit, was a boy called Nikita Sakurs.

Jelena Sakura and Andrei Sakurs were celebrating after their son, who weighted 7lb 5oz, was born at 6.32am.
