Link commended on 50th birthday

A CITY-based housing association has been praised as it celebrates a milestone anniversary.

The Link group of charitable registered social landlords, voluntary organisations and social enterprises has marked its 50th birthday.

Link Housing Association was created shortly after the Housing (Scotland) Act of 1962, and its aim was “to carry on the industry, business and trade of providing housing for letting and any associated amenities in Scotland”.

The name Link was chosen because the houses built helped fill the gap between the private and the public sectors.

Among the 200 guests who turned out at a recent reception at the Sheraton Hotel were former and existing staff, members, supporters, and others who have helped Link grow and evolve into one of Scotland’s leading and most respected social enterprises in Scotland.

Margaret Burgess, the newly appointed Minister for Housing and Welfare, said: “Link are to be commended for 50 successful years that have been punctuated by a commitment to the welfare of tenants, social justice and social inclusion, which are also priorities for the Scottish Government.”

Link now provides housing, support and regeneration services to 10,000 families and individuals across the Central Belt.
