Life for stabbing friend to death

A TEENAGER who stabbed his friend to death in a row at a party has been jailed for life.

John Dick, 19, was told at the High Court in Kilmarnock yesterday that he should serve a minimum 15 years for murdering Leslie Berry, also 19.

Violence erupted after Dick’s brother caused damage to the victim’s kitchen in August 2011. Mr Berry wanted to throw him out of the house in Park Lane, Kilsyth, North Lanarkshire.

John Dick stabbed him six times, with one blow severing his femoral artery and causing fatal bleeding.

Dick had admitted culpable homicide, but a jury at the High Court in Glasgow found him guilty of murder.

Passing sentence, Judge John Morris, QC, said Dick should serve 15 years before being considered for parole.
