Leuchie decision is welcome

NORTH Berwick SNP councillor Dave Berry has welcomed the reprieve given to Leuchie House, the respite home which the Multiple Sclerosis Society planned to close at the end of this week.

The society announced on Monday that it had agreed to keep the home open for the next six months to allow manager Mairi O'Keefe to set up an independent charity to take it over.

Ms O'Keefe has secured some funding and plans to extend bed numbers and open the home to people with other long-term conditions.

Cllr Berry said: "Even with just a six-month stay of execution, I am convinced that this excellent facility will persevere to find a long-term solution."
