Lemurs’ love at first sight

ONE of Edinburgh Zoo’s latest arrivals has found love only a fortnight after arriving in his new home.

Duke, a rare Sclater’s lemur, has struck up a romantic bond with one of his fellow blue-eyed species members, the feisty Noemie.

It is a boost for staff hoping to increase the presence of the endangered animal, which originally hails from Madagascar.

Primate keeper Georgina Cook said: “Duke joined our lemur group two weeks ago as part of an exchange programme to encourage mating.

“While it is still early days, he is showing a definite interest in our rather bossy female, Noemie. They sit close together and keepers have spotted some mating behaviour.”
