Leith Festival set to kick off

THE annual celebration of culture and the arts in Leith was getting under way.

Hundreds of events are to take place every year as part of the Leith Festival, which takes place over the next 10 days.

This year the festival is celebrating its 100th anniversary and organisers say it will be the biggest yet.

Among the highlights of the arts extravaganza are a floating cabaret club, a live music venue and nightclub in a shopping centre, a celebration of Polish culture and a major showcase of short films.

The events will take place in 30 venues, all within a mile of the Foot of the Walk, between now and June 10.

Concerts, sessions, exhibitions, plays, film screenings, sports events and children's activities will be part of the programme, which will come to a climax on June 9 with a parade and gala day.
