FORMER Hibs star Leigh Griffiths has been arrested and charged by police in connection with an alleged assault in Edinburgh city centre.

It’s claimed he grabbed a man by the throat after getting involved in a shouting match.

The alleged victim is said to have contacted police who arrested the 22-year-old footballer at his Edinburgh home.

The player, on loan to Hibs last season from Wolves, and voted Scottish Player of the Year, is still not sure of his footballing future, and was the subject of a failed bid from Hibernian earlier this month.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged assault. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in relation to the incident.”

Meanwhile another former Hibs star, Garry O’Connor, appeared in court yesterday at Haddington after being allegedly caught unfit to drive. The 30-year-old is expected to face trial in November.
