Scotland’s leading animal welfare charity took the kitten into care after being contacted by a concerned member of the public who discovered the eight week old kitten next to bins outside

a block of flats on Tedder Road, near the St Machar area of the city, on Tuesday night.

She is now being cared for at the SSPCA’s Aberdeenshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Drumoak where she has been named Nala.

Animal Rescue Officer Lynne Craib explained: “Nala was found on top of the cardboard box and the lady who contacted us said her paws were tangled up in the sellotape that had been used to seal it.

“Whoever dumped Nala left her bed, litter tray, food and toys in the box, which had air holes. The bins are in a very public area and the person responsible may have been sure someone would find Nala. However, it was getting dark when she was found and it was very cold”

She added: “There is also a busy road near the flats as well and Nala could easily have been hurt or even worse if she had run away.”

Jacki Bell, a Senior Animal Care Assistant at the Drumoak centre, said: “Nala has been through a lot and she’s understandably terrified, but she appears to be in good overall health and we hope to find her a loving home where she will be given the care and attention she deserves.”

An SSPCA spokeswoman said: “Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
