Key decision for old hotel

A DEVELOPER has seen a bid to convert a 19th century building into homes approved by council chiefs.

The Cross Keys Hotel in Dalkeith’s High Street, which has lain empty for more than two years, has fallen into disrepair. Built in 1804, the building – last used as a pub – now suffers from dry rot.

Under developer Mark Hendrie’s plans, the B-Listed hotel building will be retained and converted, with a commercial unit on the ground floor and six flats on the upper floors.

The function suite and toilet block are set to be demolished to make way for eight flats.
