A KAYAKER found dead in a Highland loch has been named by police.

Alexander Thorburn, 48, from Fife, was found by Stornoway Coastguard in Loch Morar, Lochaber, on Monday.

Another kayaker who was with Mr Thorburn when they got into difficulty swam to the shore and raised the alarm with a group of hillwalkers.

They contacted police, who alerted the Stornoway Coastguard. Its helicopter crew found a body on Monday afternoon.

The surviving kayaker was airlifted to Belford hospital in Fort William. His condition is not thought to be serious, police said.
