Kathleen guides her team to glory

A REAL life Gregory’s Girl has helped inspire her school’s football team to an impressive collection of silverware after they went unbeaten for 50 games.

Kathleen McGovern and her teammates have swept all opposition aside to clinch six league and cup trophies in one season.

The ten-year-old midfielder plays alongside boys for Our Lady and St Anne’s Primary in Hamilton.

She has been accepted as a full-time member of the seven-a-side team and has earned praise for her performances.

And like Dee Hepburn’s character in the 1981 film, she has won plaudits for her silky ball skills and tough tackling.

Kathleen impressed coaches at the start of the school year last year when she entered for the under-12s team. Her father Brian said: “When she first joined the school team we used to go to matches and we got a few looks from boys as if to say this is going to be an easy game.

“But now they know she’s one of the best players on the team.”
