WHISKY fans anxious to try Jura’s 40th anniversary edition can get an unlikely hint of its colour, nose and taste - through an animated video.

The distillery handed out samples of The 39 ¾ - a preview of the forthcoming 40th anniversary single malt - at the recent Islay whisky festival, and asked those in attendance to give their thoughts.

Their notes were then given to artist Robbie’s Brown Shoes of the Puck Collective whose cartoon sketches, narrated by Jura’s Willie Tait, bring to life the story of the island, the distillery, and the whisky itself.

Notes from the video include scents of marmalade and coffee, as well as tastes of amaretto and a manuka honey finish. Tait admits it is the first time that he has seen an image-led tasting, but added: “Robbie has done an amazing job of capturing my notes on the new malt and summing up the experiences of all those who attended the festival.”

Whisky fans who want to try the 39 ¾ for themselves can follow Jura on Twitter, for a chance to win a vial of their own, and find out if the pictures and words match up to the flavours. The Jura 40-year-old will be released next summer.
