Judy Murray visits Castlemilk Children in Need project

The Jeely Piece Club works with children aged from five to twelve in the Castlemilk area. BBC Children in Need is currently funding over £78,000 to the group for a Senior Outdoor Play Development worker, to support and encourage disadvantaged children into play sessions in woodland areas.

The play sessions give local children the opportunity to play in a fun and relaxed outdoor setting where they can discover new ways to express and challenge themselves, as well as giving them the change to empower themselves to make their own choices and decisions. At the same time, sessions help young people value their environment and encourage them to take responsibility and pride in taking care of it. Each week the project welcomes over 50 children from the local area, giving them the opportunity to play in a safe place, an opportunity they may not otherwise have without Jeely Piece.

Judy Murray said of the visit: “It was absolutely fantastic to visit the Jeely Piece project in Glasgow and see first-hand how money raised for BBC Children in Need is making such a huge impact on young lives in the local area. Thanks to this project the young people I met are able to play in a safe space outdoors, which is something every young person should be able to enjoy. With the 2015 Appeal just around the corner I would like to ask people across the UK to get fundraising, as the money raised really does go on to make a huge difference.”
