Jail visitor hid cannabis in crisp bag

A PRISON visitor hid a lump of cannabis in a bag of crisps before passing it to a convict, a court has heard.

Stewart McAdam was told his family would suffer if he refused to take drugs into jail. But when he visited Ian McDonald at Addiewell prison in West Lothian, his behaviour aroused the suspicion of custody officers.

Livingston Sheriff Court was told McAdam was spotted “fidgeting” with the crisp packet then passing it across the table to inmate McDonald.

Safeena Rashid, prosecuting, said the crunch came after McDonald was seen taking an object out of the crisp packet and placing it in his waistband.

McAdam, 37, of Larkhall, Lanarkshire, and McDonald, 26, whose address was given as HMP Addiewell, both pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of illegal drugs.

Sheriff Douglas Kinloch deferred sentence on both men for six weeks for reports.
