Inspector game for policing golf tournament

A LOTHIAN and Borders Police Inspector has put his usual duties to the side as he takes on a lead role planning for next’s year Open Championship golf.

Ian Mackay, Community Area Inspector for Haddington, Dunbar and North Berwick, all in East Lothian will oversee the police operation ahead of the tournament at Muirfield next summer.

Insp Mackay said: “It is a unique opportunity to work on something totally different.

“So far it has been a steep learning curve.”

But he said he wouldn’t be abandoning his community work entirely.

He added: “I’ll be flitting between Fettes and Haddington but will still be keeping an eye on what’s going on and keeping my finger on the pulse.”
