Inquiry into death of new mother

A FATAL accident inquiry is to be held into the death of a mother who died just days after giving birth to her first child.

Lesley Cowie, 31, suffered complications when her baby Grace was delivered by Caesarian section at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Post mortem examinations revealed that the Aberdeen mother had died as a result of an abdominal haemorrhage.

The condition is linked to a form of benign liver tumour. It is sometimes associated with oral contraceptive medication and does not normally cause problems. However, it can enlarge and bleed in some women during pregnancy.

The death certificate lodged after Mrs Cowie’s death listed insulin-dependent diabetes as the secondary cause of death.

A fatal accident inquiry into the circumstances of her death will be held at Aberdeen Sheriff Court next month.
