Inmates show they can cut it

A NEW documentary has captured how some of Scotland’s prisoners are using the art of hairdressing as part of turning their life around.

The 30-minute film Cutting Loose, produced by staff at Edinburgh College of Art, follows the build-up to the annual Scottish Prison Service hairdressing competition.

Directed by Adrian McDowall and Finlay Pretsell, the film shows ten prisoners from five jails competing to win the prize. This year’s final was held at Glenochil prison.

One inmate said: “I’m trusted with a pair of scissors and I’m in here for murder.”
