In pictures: How Scotland fared with the Beast from the East

Scotland was blanketed with snow this week as the polar jet stream shifted direction bringing cold air and freezing temperatures from the east.

Dubbed the “Beast From The East”, this weather cycle dropped the average spring temperatures in the UK dramatically resulting in blizzards, Siberian winds and widespread travel disruption.

Major roads were brought to a standstill, while trains, planes and buses were delayed or cancelled across the country.

However, many Scots took to the news of school closures, snow days and lack of public transport in their stride with many grabbing their sledges, snow shovels and sense of fun to take advantage of the unseasonable snow storms.
