Iain Banks’ The Crow Road in Edinburgh screening

• BBC adaptation of The Crow Road to be screened in Edinburgh

• Film is part of city-wide tribute to author, who died last month

The Filmhouse cinema will be playing host to the screening of the award-winning 1996 series The Crow Road, starring Joe McFadden, Bill Paterson and Peter Capaldi on 18 August.

The mini-festival, instigated by the Edinburgh Unesco City of Literature Trust in the wake of the author’s death last month,

It will get underway on Sunday will a sci-fi poetry exhibition at the Scottish Poetry Library and a spoken word event at the Bongo Club.

The Central Library will be hosting a quiz about Banks’ back catalogue, while a creative writing project is aimed at inspiring new work from the opening lines of his books.

The Iain Banks season will close on 25 August with the tribute event being staged at the Edinburgh International Book Festival.

Ali Bowden, director of the Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature Trust, said: “The Iain Banks season lets our city pay tribute to a brilliant author, a local and someone we knew and loved.

“It’s a varied programme of events and we hope encourages new readers to Iain’s work, as well as those familiar with it to explore more widely.”
