'I tell her about her dad all the time, she kisses his photo' – family's grief as killer gets 9 years

A TEENAGER has been jailed for nine years for killing the father of a three-month-old baby girl by stabbing him through the heart in a row over eggs.

Viaceslav Tomasevic – who was known as Slava – was confronted by Alexander Sharp, 17, when he went next door to complain about eggs thrown at his window.

Mr Tomasevic, who had been celebrating his daughter Emma's christening, became involved in an argument with revellers attending a drunken party at the house in Bo'ness.

Sharp – one of the partygoers – got a knife and stabbed Mr Tomasevic twice in the chest and left him dying in the garden. One blow pierced his heart and the second damaged his liver and intestines.

Sentencing Sharp yesterday, Lord Brailsford told him: "You were attending a party, you were grossly under the influence of alcohol and when Mr Tomasevic, who was himself entertaining friends, came to remonstrate with the householder, you without any reason intervened. You went into the kitchen, picked up a fairly large knife and stabbed Mr Tomasevic twice. That was clearly a very serious matter, resulting in the death of Mr Tomasevic."

The judge went on: "You have had a difficult upbringing, but you are described as polite, articulate, intelligent and likeable, and there must be some hope you may become a decent member of society when you are released."

Lord Brailsford told Sharp, of Boghall, Bathgate, he would have jailed him for 12 years but for the fact he had tendered a guilty plea to culpable homicide at an early stage.

Mr Tomasevic's widow Zuzana, 26, who married the 35-year-old Lithuanian only a month before he was killed, was not at the High Court in Glasgow to see Sharp sentenced. She is back home in Slovakia.

But after Sharp was convicted, she said she felt no anger towards Scotland or the Scottish people and that her dream was to come back here with Emma to live.

The couple who met through their work in Scotland, dreamed of bringing Emma up here.

She said they had had a happy life until a family moved in next door and the teenage sons held noisy parties most weekends.

She said: "When we met it was a case of love at first sight. We had each other and Emma, and everything was perfect.

"Slava was a doting dad. He called Emma his little angel. He was very proud of her. I talk to her all the time about her dad, and she kisses his photograph."
