Hunt is on for inspirational volunteers

AN APPEAL for final nominations for the Inspiring Volunteers Awards 2010 has been made by council chiefs.

East Lothian Council has asked for people to nominate a community volunteer who has made a difference in the county before the closing date on Monday.

The awards celebrate the contribution that volunteers make to community life.

Individuals or organisations can nominate volunteers across nine separate categories, including Young Volunteer of the Year, Tenants Group of the Year and Community Activist of the Year.

Councillor Paul McLennan, cabinet member for community wellbeing, said: "Last year was the first Inspiring Volunteer Awards and we had a tough job choosing the very worthy winners. What all the volunteers had in common was an enthusiasm and commitment to sharing their skills, experience and time to benefit others.

"The awards are a great chance to recognise the positive impact that volunteers make in our communities and reward the achievements of the individuals that make it happen."

The awards will be presented at a ceremony at Jewel & Esk Valley College on 3 June.
