The Loch Ness-side road was closed between Invermorison and Drumnadrochit.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Following discussions with partner agencies, the road has been closed for matters of public safety regarding falling debris. There is a diversion in place.”

Motorists are advised to take the A86 at Spean Bridge, a diversion of almost 120 miles.

It is understood recent heavy rainfall and flooding may have dislodged boulders above the road, much of which is protected by metal meshing.
