Housing plans win approval

Two planning applications for new homes and new care housing in Penicuik have been approved by Midlothian Council.

One proposal will see the construction of 12 council houses and 18 flats, including housing suitable to support children and young people with care needs.

The second plan is for an extra-care housing development for older people, designed especially for those with dementia and mobility problems.

Both will be built on the site of the former Eastfield Primary School. The development will provide 32 flats and community facilities, including a cafe, and there will also be 24-hour on-site support for tenants.

Council leader Derek Milligan said: “This is what our older people and their families have been telling us they want in Midlothian.”
