Housing association wins green award for upgrading buildings

A HOUSING association in the Capital has scopped an award from the Carbon Trust.

Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association picked up a Low Carbon Building Award for the upgrade of four B-listed social housing units – the Pleasance Upgrade Project 2011 – in the Capital.

The winning building, which was successful in the refurbishment category, has an original structure dating back to the 1840s. The judges noted that great use of innovative materials had been employed to improve the building’s thermal performance, a significant achievement for such an old property.

Paul Wedgwood, manager of the Carbon Trust Scotland, said: “The standard of entries to both categories was extremely high this year and really set the bar for the process of designing and creating a low-carbon building.

“The Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association’s entry impressed the judges.”
