householders’ nightmare

Residents being robbed in their own homes remains a relatively rare crime in the Capital, but other high-profile incidents have taken place in recent months.

Patrick Lam, 58, and his wife, Timmy, 48, were tied up at knifepoint after three men wearing balaclavas forced their way into their home in Barnton Avenue West. The gang made off with £15,000 of jewellery, designer handbags and other items, as well as £5000 in cash in the robbery on March 9.

In the same month, the Evening News reported how Alan Saville, 76, struggled with former squaddie Robbie Morrison, 28, who had broken into his house in Spylaw Road carrying a knife.
