House prices up by 500%

HOUSE prices in the Capital have risen by more than 500 per cent in the last 25 years, a study has found.

Property values in Edinburgh increased from an average of £33,524 in 1986 to an average of £204,038 last year – a rise of 509 per cent.

The research, which compared prices in several UK cities with those in towns, found that the city properties rose by an average of 382 per cent compared with the national average of 347 per cent.

They have also fallen less sharply since the housing market peaked in 2007, dropping by 18 per cent.
