House building at its lowest hereggggg

A COUNCIL house building boom is unlikely to have prevented 2011 becoming the worst year for house building in recent history, official figures suggest.

The latest housing statistics for Scotland show a record 866 council houses were completed last year. But housing association completions (3,698) slumped to their lowest level since 2004.

The full picture for 2011 will not become clear until next quarter, when the end-of-year private-sector statistics become available.

Housing minister Keith Brown said: “The disappointing figures for completions show economic conditions are continuing to have detrimental impact on house-building activity.

“However, the Scottish Government is doing all it can to support the industry and boost supply.”
