Hotel prices jump by 50%

HOTEL prices across the Capital have soared by almost 50 per cent over the last month.

According to the Trivago Hotel Price Index (THPI), the average price of a one-night stay in a hotel in Edinburgh had risen to £177 – 46 per cent higher than the £121 average in July.

Across the rest of Europe, hotel prices have dropped in southern destinations and increased in the north.

The increase in Edinburgh hotel prices follows the start of the Fringe earlier this month.

The index also showed that hotel prices in every main city in the UK and Ireland had increased when compared with August last year.

Meanwhile, the average price of a hotel in London is now expected to drop by 35 per cent following the conclusion of the Olympics, where hundreds of thousands of spectators flocked to watch the action.
