Hotel neighbours in court bid to silence randy peacocks

The noise made by amorous peacocks deprived of a hen during the mating season has resulted in a court battle between a hotelier and his neighbours.

A petition, signed by 26 residents who live near The Retreat Castle Hotel in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian, and lodged at Edinburgh Justice of the Peace Court yesterday, sought an order to silence the hotel’s birds.

Hotel owner Peter Hood said he had never had any complaints until new housing had been built. He added that there were currently no peacocks at the hotel.

Justice Drummond continued the hearing until September, saying: “I would like you to come to some agreement.”
