Hotel loved by the stars is up for sale

ONE of the Capital's most prestigious hotels has gone into administration.

The five-star Glasshouse Hotel beside the Playhouse Theatre is one of five up for sale after the collapse of the Eton Collection group, which also owns three hotels in London and one in Leeds.

All have now been put on the market after KPMG were appointed administrators.

There have been no redundancies, and the hotel will trade while a buyer is sought.

The Glasshouse opened in June 2003, and with a city centre location and a rooftop terrace with views of the Forth and Calton Hill it quickly found a place among the city's best hotels, with stars Kylie Minogue and Meryl Streep staying there.

Last year, however, the hotel made a loss of 154,583, with the economic downturn seeing turnover fall 5 per cent.

KPMG joint administrator Jane Moriarty said: "We are continuing to trade the business while we assess the position of the hotels. Historically the hotels have traded successfully and are well regarded at the luxury end of the market, so we are hopeful of securing a successful resolution to this situation."
