Horses will hit streets again

HUNDREDS of horses and riders will parade through the Capital's streets this summer for a second consecutive year.

Preparations for the Edinburgh Riding of the Marches got under way on Saturday night with the appointment of the Captain to lead the event.

The event, a tradition that goes back to 1579 when riders checked the boundaries of the city, was revived last September for the first time in 63 years. More than 250 riders are expected to take part.

Last year, participants rode from the south and centre of the city, up the Royal Mile.
