Honour for fire rescue hero

A PHOTOGRAPHER whose heroic actions saved the life of a six-year-old boy trapped in a burning house has been honoured for a second time.

Angus Blackburn, who lives in Penicuik, was one of four people recognised at an awards ceremony for bravery.

He was presented with a St Andrew’s Award by Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon at Bute House yesterday. Last November, Angus received a Lothian and Borders Police Meritorious Award.

Angus, 49, was at the Roadhouse pub in Penicuik in November 2009 when frantic mum Angela Thomson ran in screaming that son Denon was trapped upstairs. Angus rushed to the house to rescue the boy, who was screaming for help.

He said: “It was a change being on the other side of the camera.”
