Honda recalling Jazz models after child dies in car fire

HONDA has recalled more than half a million vehicles after a child died in a car fire.

The move involves a car marketed in the UK as the Honda Jazz. The fault is reported to be connected with the car's window switch.

A spokesman for Honda in Britain said the company would be recalling about 172,000 units in the UK.

He said it would "inspect and modify driver-door power window switches that may, in some cases, short-circuit as a result of water intrusion".

Two-year-old Vanilla Nurse died in Cape Town in September last year when the car she was sleeping in caught fire.

Meanwhile, Toyota says it has solved a problem with Chinese-made accelerator pedals in eight of its models. Up to 1.8 million Toyotas, including the marque's major brands, the Yaris, Corolla and RAV4 sports utility vehicles, are set to be recalled.

Toyota says repairs to the pedals, which have a tendency to stick will be finished in less than a month.
