Holocaust survivor who settled in Edinburgh leaves £1.1m fortune

A HOLOCAUST survivor who fled the Nazis and settled in Edinburgh left a £1.1m fortune.

David Goldberg escaped certain death in concentration camps when he was smuggled from Germany to the UK just before the start of the Second World War.

After serving in the British Army and working as an interpreter at the Nuremberg Trials he married and set up a tailor’s business in Edinburgh.

Mr Goldberg passed away in February at the age of 88 having amassed an estate worth £1,121,415.

He had spent much of his life giving speeches on his experiences at the hands of the Gestapo and how 20 members of his family perished in Auschwitz.

But is has now emerged he had left instructions for his fortune to be divided equally between his three children.
