Hit TV show Outlander to be renewed for series 5 and 6

Hugely popular time travelling fantasy series Outlander will return for series five and six after it was renewed by a US entertainment company.

The news came after it was confirmed that the fourth series of the show, which is currently being filmed in Scotland, will return in November.

Posting on their official Twitter channel, the Outlander team wrote: “We couldna wait to tell you any longer. Outlander will return to STARZ for Season 4 this November AND for Seasons 5 and 6!”

The drama series recently became one of the most-watched shows on television, with an average of 5.8 million viewers per episode of the third series.

Based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon, the show follows the adventures and budding romance of main characters Claire Randall (played by Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (played by Scottish actor Sam Heughan).

The newly ordered series five and six will reportedly run for 12 episodes apiece, one less than than the second, third and fourth series and four less than its debut series which ran for 16 episodes.
