Highland Show’s Plan B for car parks

The torrential rain has caused major problems for the organisers of the Royal Highland Show, with large areas of the main car parks unusable and several stands affected by flooding.

Show manager David Dunsmuir admitted there were pretty serious challenges, especially in the car parks, where tractors were being used to pull vehicles out onto the roads.

Organisers have secured additional parking at Gogarburn, the headquarters of Royal Bank of Scotland, the major sponsor of the show. Shuttle buses will run to the show fields.

Edinburgh Airport has also offered its short stay car park “on a neighbourly non-commercial basis”.

Between the two temporary sites, there will be about 2,300 spaces on tarmac.

Despite this, visitor numbers were only slightly down for the first two days.
