High rollers gear up for Old Town race

CYCLING legend Malcolm Elliott was gearing up ahead of the Edinburgh Nocturne race through the city's Old Town this weekend.

The 49-year-old Commonwealth gold medallist will be taking to the cobbled streets with the Marshalls Pasta Team.

Yesterday he tried out a Penny Farthing to mark the 125th anniversary of his team sponsor being established, but will be back on his Opera Super Leonardo for the race on Saturday.

Alongside Elliott, who made a comeback in 2003 after dominating sprint racing in the 1980s, will be Jonny Bellis, who is returning from life-threatening head injuries, and Australian Cameron Meyer, the world track champion.

David Millar, last year's Nocturne winner will be absent, with the Scot in Rotterdam for the Tour de France, however big screens in the Grassmarket will show the Tour's prologue time trial at 3pm with racing from 6pm.
