Heroin seized in road check

HEROIN with a street value of £900,000 was found by police officers who pulled over a car during a routine road check in the second biggest seizure of the drug in the Lothians.

Officers uncovered 9kg of the Class A drug in the vehicle, which was stopped near Howgate in Midlothian on Tuesday night. A subsequent search of the driver's home address led to a further haul of 5,000 ecstasy tablets being recovered, worth around 5,000.

A 27-year-old man has been charged in connection with the recovery, and he was due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court tomorrow.
