Heritage body feels squeeze with 10% cut

MILLIONS of pounds is to be slashed from the budget of Scottish Natural Heritage, as part of the spending squeeze hitting public services.

The quango, which looks after Scotland's nature and landscapes, has received 60.674 million for 2010-11 - a 10.6 per cent cut on this year's funding.

A package of cuts announced by SNH yesterday (Thurs) revealed there would be an 11 per cent cut in spending on the communications budget, including awareness-raising campaigns and promotional work.

Ian Jardine, SNH chief executive, said: "It is difficult, but we do have to adapt in order to cope with the combination of reduced budgets, along with the additional responsibilities we will have. As a result, we will become a smaller and more focused organisation, concentrating on a smaller range of issues."
