Heavily pregnant woman ‘fighting for her life’ after being hit by bus

A 31-year-old heavily pregnant woman is in critical condition after being hit by a bus.

The incident happened around 7pm yesterday at the junction of Lansdowne Crescent and Palmerston Place.

The woman sustained a number of serious head injuries after being hit by a number 26 bus.

She was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment, where she remains in a critical condition.

It is believed her unborn child is unharmed.

The junction was closed for one hour as police conducted their initial collision investigations.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses and would urge anyone with information to come forward.

Inspector Roger Park of Edinburgh’s Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with everyone involved.

“We are currently investigating this collision and we are eager to speak to anyone who may have witnessed it.

“I would ask anyone who was in the Palmerston Place area around 7pm on Wednesday, January 24, and saw this collision, to get in touch with us at their earliest convenience.”
