Hearts pub avoid Scottish Cup final own goal

FANS’ favourite Robertson’s Bar in Gorgie Road had faced the nightmare scenario of being banned from selling alcohol on cup final day after its licence was suspended.

It is understood the pub, formerly owned by Hearts and Scotland hero John Robertson, had been hauled in front of licensing chiefs after concerns over behaviour but had escaped a month-long suspension in favour of a fortnight’s ban, owing to the timing of the Scottish Cup final. The pub argued that the pay day of the final was too big to miss – and councillors agreed.

One member of the licensing board said: “There were a number of factors considered when determining the length of suspension and one was the affect on the business by missing out on the Scottish Cup final.”
