Hearts fan in ground ban

A HEARTS fan arrested after making “scissor snipping” gestures with his fingers towards Tottenham Hotspur supporters during a Europa League match at Tynecastle has been fined £220 and banned from Scottish football grounds for six months.

Stuart Atkinson, 36, of East Craigs Rigg, had pleaded guilty previously at the city’s Sheriff Court to committing a breach of the peace by making the gestures on August 18 last year.

Sheriff William Holligan asked about the movement and defence solicitor Graeme Runcie told him Spurs were a team associated with Jewish culture.

Sheriff Holligan said fans had been angered by the gestures and it had provoked a response.
