Health chiefs stick to brain clinic plan despite funds blow

HEALTH chiefs remain committed to building a brain unit beside the new Sick Kids hospital, despite being dealt a funding blow by the Scottish Government.

NHS Lothian will press ahead with plans to create the department of clinical neurosciences (DCN) at Little France, bosses confirmed.

The DCN suffered a setback earlier this year when the Scottish Parliament told the health board it would have to seek private funding for the 48 million unit.

Yesterday, the Evening News revealed that the private sector will also have to fund the entire Sick Kids project - estimated to be worth a total of about 200m.

Chief operating officer for acute services, Jackie Sansbury, said: "We are continuing to explore the options available for relocating."
