Headbutt was not 'gentle'

A SHERIFF ridiculed a lawyer's claim that a man had given his partner a "gentle" headbutt.

Sheriff Graeme Fleming said: "It's not just contact, it's not just rubbing his forehead against her forehead. He headbutted her and he's pleaded guilty."

Craig Herriot, 41, appeared for sentence at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday after admitting an assault which took place outside the town's train station on April 9. Glenn Fraser, defending, told the court: "Mr Herriot says it was a face-to-face argument and contact was made. There was no injury at all."

Paul Beaton, prosecuting, said that when charged, Herriot replied: "I was drunk and I'm sorry. It was a silly thing to do."

Herriot was placed on a community pay-back order for a year.
