A man has died days after being attacked in the street in Hamilton.

James Baillie, 41, of Buchanan Crescent, suffered a serious head injury.

His 64-year-old mother was injured during the assault on Tuesday night but was released from hospital that day.

Mr Baillie died on Friday in Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride, Police Scotland said.

The investigation is now a murder inquiry.

Detectives said a number of people were involved in the attack.

Mr Baillie was involved in a disturbance in the same street earlier on Tuesday evening, according to police.
