Green light for car deal

COMPETITION bosses are set to clear the way for a merger between two car-sharing companies with a base in the city.

Streetcar, which launched operations in Edinburgh in May with ten cars spread across the city centre, was bought by rival Zipcar earlier this year, and the Office of Fair Trading referred the deal to the Competition Commission.

The commission has now provisionally cleared the deal. The commission's Peter Davis, said: "The evidence we have seen of credible expansion by existing players and plans by new entrants into this market means the right answer in this case is to clear the merger."
