Green groups urged to apply for action grants

Communities that want to share in council grants of up to £2500 have been given a deadline of Monday to apply.

The city council has set the deadline for its “waste action grants”, which are available to fund eco-friendly projects that encourage people to recycle or reuse materials.

The money available ranges from smaller grants of £50-£200 to larger grants of £500-£2500.

Councillor Robert Aldridge, the city’s environment leader, said: “We have had great success with previous projects, helping this council towards our goal of recycling 50 per cent of domestic waste by 2015.

Edinburgh residents have a key role to play in ensuring we preserve our environment for future generations. Disposing of our waste responsibly is an important part of that.”
