WWF Scotland said the country should be aiming for 100 per cent of electricity to be from renewable sources by 2020.
The environmental group made the call as it published statistics revealing that "too many" UK households continue to receive electricity from polluting and "dangerous power sources" such as coal and nuclear.

Hide AdWWF Scotland's director, Dr Richard Dixon, said: "The good news is that our energy supply is slowly becoming greener, but these figures clearly show that too many companies are still generating electricity from dirty and dangerous sources.
"We need power companies to step up their investment in renewable energy sources and the clean-up of their existing power stations."
