Green Alert

Energy minister Fergus Ewing has been warned that the SNP government's aim of meeting all Scotland's electricity needs from renewable sources by 2020 is "unachieveable" and the refusal to replace existing nuclear facilities will jeopardise Scotland's energy supply.

Tory MSP Jackson Carlaw called on Mr Ewing to provide details of how the plan would be implemented. Mr Ewing told MSPs Scotland "has a unique natural endowment" which includes an estimated quarter of Europe's offshore wind and tidal resource.
